Carpet cleaning can be a hassle when done by yourself and the types of carpet you have can affect how easy it is to clean. Different fibers and materials of carpet require different types of cleaning. Pace Cleaning Systems has worked with all different carpet types, but if you are not familiar with the type of carpet that is in your home, we have created a quick guide to help keep you informed. In fact, you may have more than one type of carpet in your home or business.
Carpet cleaning works with the fibers of the carpet to extract dust and other debris from between or in the carpet fibers. Because all carpet is made differently, extracting material can change depending on the type of carpet you are working with.
This is the most common type that is found in residential spaces. This carpet is fuzzier and is a layer of cushion for your home. This type of carpet can be difficult to clean because of the amount of shag and even vacuuming can become difficult.
There are different types inside cut pile carpeting. These include:
Vacuuming twice a week can help remove more dirt and debris that are between carpet fibers. If you have pets, you may need to vacuum more often.
This carpet type has a much longer life span than cut pile. This type is also more durable and is more common in businesses and hotels for this reason. Even though it is more durable, it can become difficult to clean and the cleaning process can change depending on the spacing between loops. The type of loop pile carpets include:
- Multi-level loop pattern
- Loop and cut
These carpets are best cleaned with steam. If not cleaned properly, they can hold mold, water, and dirt. To uphold the integrity of these carpets you should clean them every 6-12 months.
While types of carpet are important to know, these carpet types can be made out of different materials. This adds an extra layer of difficulty to how they are cleaned. Below is a list of the most common materials used to make carpets and how it is best to clean them.
Nylon- Nylon stains easily. Once you notice a stain, use warm water to help lift the stain. If this does not work, add some dish soap and use warm water to help remove the stain from your carpet.
Polyester- Synthetic carpet is used because it is durable. Polyester can be more stain resistant, but cleaning this type of carpet can be done with a synthetic carpet cleaner and warm water.
Wool- Wool can be damaged easily, especially with scrubbing. Use warm water and white vinegar for wool carpets and make sure to brush and clean the carpet regularly.
Blend- Blended carpet is made of multiple types of fabric, which can make it difficult to clean. If the stain persists you can use water and dish soap, or a detergent to help lift the stain.
Carpet cleaning is also based on how old the carpet is and what type of property they are located on. Carpet can become matted and can experience different types of debris depending on the place. Hiring a carpet cleaning business is the best way to ensure that your carpets are cleaned without ruining them.
